PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor, an image processing method and a program which can give a moderate depth feeling to a background area when a stereoscopic image is stereoscopically viewed and can eventually enhance stereoscopic effect of the image that is stereoscopically viewed even through contrast of the background area of an original image is relatively low.SOLUTION: The image processor inputs an original image for generating a plurality of parallax images as an input image (S11). The original image is divided into a foreground area and a background area (S12), and contrast information of the background area is acquired (S13). If a low contrast area in which contrast is equal to or less than a specified value exists in the background area on the basis of the contrast information (an affirmative determination in S14), correction processing for enhancing contrast is executed to the low contrast area (S15). Depth is given to the foreground area and the background area (S16), and an image for the left eye and an image for the right eye are generated on the basis of the processed original image (S19).
