摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool the hard coating layer of which achieves excellent chipping resistance in heavy cutting work. SOLUTION: On the surface of a cutting tool base body comprising cemented carbide, cermet, and cubic boron nitride-based ultra-high pressure sintered matter, the hard coating layer is composed of a Cr-Al composite nitride layer satisfying a composition formula (Cr<SB>1-X</SB>Al<SB>X</SB>)N (X is 0.40-0.70 by atomic ratio), in which, an area ratio of crystal grains having a crystal orientation <100> within a range of 0-15 deg., from a normal line direction of a surface polished surface, is 50% or more in the case where crystal orientation analysis is conducted by EBSD concerning the layer, and such crystal arrangement is given that a ratio of a small angle grain boundary (0<θ≤15 deg.) is 50% or more in the case where the angle formed by adjoining crystal grains is measured.
