A system comprising: a container that forms a cavity; a physiological fluid subjected to centrifugation in the cavity of the container so as to provide an interface in the physiological fluid with red blood cells separated from at least one desired component of the physiological fluid; and a floating separator structure contained in the cavity of the container and floating within the physiological fluid within the container, the floating separator structure having a shape and material that define a center of buoyancy of the floating separator structure in the physiological fluid within the container; wherein the floating separator structure defines a closed recess and includes: an upwardly facing accumulating surface that provides at a least a portion of the closed recess, and the center of buoyancy of the floating separator structure is located relative to the accumulating surface such that the accumulating surface is located just below the interface with the separated red blood cells and accumulates a small layer of red blood cells.
