Biocide-free antifouling coating compositions having long-lasting effect, comprising gel matrix and proteinaceous gel former analogous with dolphin skin

Soluble antifouling coatings comprise a degradable gel matrix and a proteinaceous gel former, consisting of a mixture of a keratin and a glycoconjugate, having an action corresponding to that of natural aquatic animal skin. Soluble antifouling coatings, with self-cleaning properties and reduced frictional resistance, contain a biocide-free gel former and a degradable gel matrix, which is mixed with the gel former in a suspension. The gel former consists of two different proteins, i.e. a structure- and protofibril-forming keratin and a swellable and adhesive glycoconjugate, the level of biochemical action of which corresponds to the highly specialized protein compounds in natural aquatic animal skin.
