Printhead with heater suspended parallel to plane of nozzle

An inkjet printhead with planar nozzle apertures and a chamber corresponding to each of the nozzles respectively. The chambers are adapted to contain a liquid and a heater, associated with each of the bubble forming chambers respectively. The heater has electrodes for connection to a power supply and a heater element configured to form a gas bubble in the liquid that causes the ejection a drop of the liquid from the nozzle. The heater element is suspended in the chamber by the electrodes such that it extends in a plane parallel to that of the nozzle aperture and spaced less than 5 microns therefrom. Suspending the heater element in the chamber close to the nozzle aperture immerses the heater in ink to reduce heat loss to the wafer substrate and reduces the mass of ink push out the nozzle so the bubble can be smaller and therefore requiring less energy to produce.
