PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the image forming material sensitive to infrared rays and heat in order to facilitate digital image formation by exposing it to infrared radiation or a heat printing head. SOLUTION: The image forming layer formed on the hydrophilic base plate of the image forming material contains (1) a water-insoluble but alkali-soluble or alkali-swellable resin having phenolic hydroxyl groups, (2) a latent Brθnsted acid, and (3) a cross-linking agent capable of reacting with the water-insoluble but alkali-soluble or alkali-swellable resin under the influence of acid, and further contains a carbon black as an infrared absorber.
