A vacuum brake for emergency stops comprises a pad engaging the roadway to form an enclosed cavity, a board attached to the rear axle, drawbars which are shiftable between an inoperative position and an operative position, a vacuum pump, springs and switches etc. The brake is controlled by pedal-switch of the brake. To form a low-pressure vacuum area, the pump is provided to evacuate air from the enclosed cavity between the elastomer and roadway. When the differential pressure acts on the elastomer and prevents the elastomer moving, the invention increases the brake effect. Compared to existent brake effect of vehicles, this invention enables the vehicle brake to decelerate the vehicle at an increased rate, e.g. shortened distance 20 %-50 %. To make vehicles run safely and airplanes land safely, this invention provides a kind of reliable brake device for emergency stops.
