PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stroke discriminating device for a four-cycle engine to perform accurate discrimination of a stroke even in a state that a pressure in a suction pipe is approximately equal to an atmosphere pressure (a negative pressure is low). SOLUTION: This device comprises a toothless gear 1, a pulse generator 2; a suction pipe inner pressure detecting means 6; an injector 4; and an ECU 3 to control the ignition timing of an ignition plug 5. The ECU 3 consists mainly of a phase detecting means 301 to detect the phase of a crank shaft 7, a first stroke discriminating means 302 to discriminate a stroke based on a detecting phase and a suction pipe internal pressured, a rotation period detecting means 303 to detect the rotation period ME of the crank shaft 7; a comparing means 304 to compare two rotation period ME having a given phase, a second stroke discriminating means 305 to discriminate a stroke based on a comparing result, and a selecting means 306 to select either the first or the second stroke discriminating means 302 or 305.
