The coupler for a single core (6) sleeved (5) fibre-optic cable comprises two similar parts (1, 2) and a housing (3). A barrel (9) in each section narrows conically (10) to form a retaining tube (11) for the end of each inner core (7), whose poished faces (8) butt together when joined. The conical section (10) forms a stop (5a) for the outer sleeve (4). A bayonet locking mechanism (26, 33) secures the assembly. ADVANTAGE - Simple fibre-optic assembly and waterproof connector construction. Allows in-situ polishing of core faces.
