Method of operating an axle metering system for railway system

The method involves counting vehicle wheels or other parts passing over metering points (ZP1...) with sensors powered from a voltage supply whose current drawn or sensor voltage changes markedly when a wheel passes over. The sensors are only transiently connected to the voltage source, but at least for the duration of their time of being influenced by a vehicle. The voltage source is switched on and off by the arrival and departure of the vehicle.
