A transmission method comprises: a) A process for transmitting an authorisation file within a communications system, whereby a request is sent out by an originator (16) included within the request are storage information details of a file. The file requested is sent from the storage location back to the originator, also in response to this request, a security descriptive file (SDF) is transmitted as the authorization file. This SDF is transmitted from the administering server unit (18) storing the file through a secure link (15) to the terminal unit (16). The SDF contains both identification information and authorization information, the identification information gives the storage location of an application descriptive file (ADF) and an entity file, the ADF has information dependent upon the entity file and the entity file includes software for the execution of an application. The authorization information indicates an allowable range of operation for both the application when executed in accordance with the software and the terminal unit operating the application. b) A dependent information obtaining process for the terminal unit to obtain an ADF from one, or a plurality of server units, wherein the ADF is stored using the first identification information contained within the SDF transmitted by the communication system during the authorization transmission process. c) A program obtaining process for the terminal unit to obtain the entity file from the communications system using the ADF obtained in the dependent information obtaining process.
