摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently atomize fuel to enhance the combustibility and to prevent the clogging of an EGR gas passage in a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas circulating device by providing a catalyst within an exhaust port or exhaust manifold, and providing an EGR gas outlet just under the catalyst. SOLUTION: An SC(start catalyst) converter 3 that is a ceramic supported tertiary catalyst activated early by supply of an exhaust gas with little temperature drop is provided within an exhaust manifold 2, and on MC(main catalyst) converter 10 that is a NOx occlusion reduction type tertiary catalyst activated by the heat of exhaust gas is arranged within an exhaust pipe 9 on the down stream thereof. When providing this exhaust gas circulating device, the EGR gas outlet of an EGR gas passage 4 allowing the exhaust manifold 2 to communicate with an intake manifold is provided just under the downstream side of the SC converter 3, and an EGR valve 5 is interposed in the passage 4. According to this, the atomization of fuel in an intake system by EGR gas is promoted.
