Disclosed is a knee bolster having a shock absorbing space. According to the present invention, the knee bolster having a shock absorbing space, absorbs impact applied to a knee while preventing the knee of a driver or a passenger seated on a passenger seat from forcedly being moved frontward when a collision of a vehicle occurs. The knee bolster having a shock absorbing space comprises a body, variable groove parts, and a coupling part. The body has impact absorbing spaces formed on the interior thereof to allow an external surface to be deformed depending on impact applied to a knee, has the shape of a plate, and has a plurality of block parts formed to be arranged side by side. The variable groove parts are formed between the block parts, have a groove-shape, and are deformed depending on impact applied to the knee. The coupling part is formed on one side of the body to selectively be mounted on a cowl cross member or a lower panel. According to the present invention, respective structures of the knee bolster are integrally manufactured through blow forming using high density polyethylene (HDPE) as the main material such that a maximum 80 % of a weight can be saved in comparison with a conventional knee bolster while obtaining commonality (unification of a mounting work for a knee bolster, material [rigidity] or the like) simultaneously satisfying regulations of respective regions (North America and Europe), which are different from each other. The block parts having impact absorbing spaces formed on the interiors thereof and the variable groove parts formed between the block parts are simultaneously interlocked to be deformed, thereby preventing the knee from forcedly being moved frontward while doubly absorbing impact applied to the knee of a passenger without a separate impact absorbing member. |
