Disposable wand and sensor for orthopedic alignment

A disposable tool suitable for use in orthopedic alignment that registers points of interest on a first and second bone and transmits location data related to the points of interest to the sensor to assess orthopedic alignment with the points of interest. A display can report and visually display alignment information in real-time.

1. A sensor for a surgical orthopedic alignment system comprising:
at least two ultrasonic transducers located at predetermined positions relative to each other on the sensor; an accelerometer configured to identify axial tilt; and a controller operatively coupled to the at least two ultrasonic transducers and the accelerometer, where at least one of the at least two ultrasonic transducers are configured to measure ultrasonic signals, where the measured ultrasonic signals are used to calculate a time of flight, where the time of flight and a differential time of flight is used to calculate a location of an object in three-dimensional space within a surgical field, where the sensor is configured to be attached to a portion of the object, where the object is a portion of a muscular skeletal system, where the location of the object can be used by a processor to determine alignment of the muscular skeletal system and where a trigger system is configured to initiate a measurement process where a trigger signal is faster than an ultrasonic signal.
