OPTICAL FIBER IDENTIFICATION DEVICE AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber identification device and method capable of simply and reliably identifying an unused fiber available for newly providing an ONU (Optical Network Unit).

SOLUTION: If a switch 137 is connected to an s1 side, the amplification factor of an amplifier 133 is determined and set based on a measurement signal by a detector 131. An amplifier 134A is set for a higher amplification factor by only 14 dB than the amplifier 133. If the switch 137 is connected to an s2 side, in a processing unit 140, it is judged whether or not a fiber 14 is a one connected to a subscriber by judging whether or not an upstream modulating signal 23 detected by a detector 132 is of the same degree of strength as a downstream modulating signal 22 detected by a detector 131.
