POLY(VINYLACETATE)EMULSION ADHESIVES CONTAINING AN ALKOXYSILANE

The present invention relates to water-borne emulsion adhesives based on polymers or copolymers of vinylacetate and having uniformly dispersed therein an adhesion promoter consisting essentially of an alkoxysilane and up to about 80% by weight of a plasticizer for the poly(vinylacetate). The alkoxysilane useful herein may be selected from in which R is independently selected from alkyl or alkoxyalkyl radicals having 1 - 4 carbon atoms. The modified adhesives have improved bond strength to wood, particularly after exposure to moisture.
