PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change the weight of removing wrinkles and spots according to the proportion of a face occupying the angle of view, reduce the deterioration in resolution of a background to the minimum, and satisfy both removal of wrinkles and spots and maintaining of high quality. SOLUTION: A low-pass filter L2 when a face area is small has a smaller high-pass cut range than a low-pass filter L1 when the face area is large and extracts high-pass components Yd in a narrower range. Since fine wrinkles and spots which exists when the face is large are not sensed much as details of the face are dropped when the face is small, a full effect can be achieved even with a noise reduction process in this narrower range. Moreover, since the frequency range of a difference signal Yd of high frequency components when the face area is small is narrower than the case where the face area is large, the details of background portions which is unnecessarily deleted in the past remain without cutting even if noise reduction is performed.
