A first cavity (5) on the length or cross-direction side of the panel extends from the top side (16) of the panel at an angle ( alpha ) to form a groove (4). A second cavity (11) on the opposite length or cross-direction side extends from the bottom side (8) of the panel and is bordered by a ledge (14) extending at an angle ( alpha ) to the top side of the panel. The groove base (4) has a protrusion (7) at its midpoint which extends over substantially the entire groove length. The sides of the ledge facing the bottom side of the panel have protrusions (12, 13) extending over their entire length, which define an intermediate recess (17) corresponding to the protrusion in the groove. The panel has a decorative layer (15) on its top side.
