1. A device for driving a load including one or more LEDs, the device comprising:
input terminals configured to connect the device to a voltage supply and for receiving an input voltage from the voltage supply, an output terminal configured to connect the device to the load, a converter unit for converting a drive voltage to an output voltage for powering the load, a switching unit connected to the input terminals for providing different levels of the drive voltage to the converter unit, and a control unit for controlling the switching unit based on an electrical converter signal measured at an element of the converter unit and a reference signal, wherein the reference signal represents a threshold level, and wherein the reference signal is a modulating signal to modulate an output signal of the device.
