<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce a musical sound at a volume easy to hear in accordance with user's age without requiring a setting operation by the user. <P>SOLUTION: Prescribed volume adjustment information corresponding to impaired hearing ability due to aging is preset and stored in a storage means for each of user generations. The volume adjustment information of a corresponding generation is decided from among the preset and stored volume adjustment information depending on the generation of a user who uses this apparatus, and the reference volume of a musical sound to be reproduced is adjusted on the basis of music data in accordance with the decided volume adjustment information. The user generation for which volume adjustment information is to be decided is automatically recognized. With this configuration, each user is not required to set and register volume adjustment information according to his/her age by himself/herself, and the user generation necessary for reading the volume adjustment information is automatically recognized.
