PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-repellent composition for paper, capable of imparting excellent water repellency and slip-preventing properties to the paper. SOLUTION: The water-repellent composition containing a wax having 48-65°C melting point, a resin, and a latex is regulated so that the content of the wax may be 5-40 wt.% based on the solid components in the whole water-repellent composition. The acid value of the resin is 10-60 mg-KOH/g in the water repellent composition for the paper. Preferably, the content of the latex having (-50)-(-15)°C glass transition temperature (Tg) is 20-60 wt.% based on the solid components of the whole water-repellent composition.
