PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which has well-arranged image forming performance over an entire image area. SOLUTION: A pattern for alignment of a read line is formed outside an effective area part, with respect to an optical element having had a high rotational eccentricity sensitivity with respect to an optical axis and high eccentricity sensitivity in a subscanning direction because the optical element has a power asymmetric with respect to the optical axis, to thereby facilitate the alignment adjustment.
