A mounting plate for mounting at least one fitting of a water pipe or the like in a wall, wherein the mounting plate extends in one plane, is flat and is provided with a front side which, in mounted condition, faces away from the wall and with a rear side which, in mounted condition, abuts against the wall, the at least one fitting, when connected to the plate, extends substantially at the rear side of the plate. The invention also provides a method for providing fittings in a wall while utilizing the mounting plate according to the invention. In addition, the invention provides a plug. The invention further provides an assembly of at least one plug and at least one matching fitting. <IMAGE>
