PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition which has improved processability and low fuel consumptiveness without deteriorating the excellent mechanical strength and abrasion resistance characteristic of natural rubber, and to provide a studless tire using the rubber composition for tire treads. SOLUTION: This rubber composition for the tire treads, comprising 100 pts. wt. of a rubber component, and 5 to 150 pts. wt. of silica having a nitrogen-adsorbing specific surface area of 100 to 300 m<SP>2</SP>/g and/or 5 to 150 pts. wt. of carbon black having a nitrogen-adsorbing specific surface area of≥70 m<SP>2</SP>/g and a dibutyl phthalate oil absorption of≥70 mL/100g, is characterized by containing protein-removed natural rubber having a weight-average mol. wt. of≥1,400.000 and a nitrogen content of≤0.1 wt. % in an amount of 5 to 100 wt. % based on the rubber component.
