PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing high purity hydrogen by which high purity hydrogen can be obtained with high energy efficiency and with a high hydrogen recovery percentage over a long time. SOLUTION: The method for producing high purity hydrogen includes: carrying out a dehydrogenation reaction of hydrogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in a dehydrogenation reactor vessel 2; and purifying gas generated by the dehydrogenation reaction with a hydrogen separation member 5 based on Pd-Cu, wherein the hydrogen separation member 5 is operated at a first temperature of 150 to <350°C, and (I) when the operation of the hydrogen separation member 5 is stopped, the hydrogen separation member 5 is heated to a second temperature which is at least 300°C and higher than the first temperature and then the operation of the hydrogen separation member 5 is stopped, or (II) when the hydrogen recovery percentage in the hydrogen separation member 5 lowers, the temperature of the hydrogen separation member 5 is increased to a second temperature which is at least 300°C and higher than the first temperature, the temperature of the hydrogen separation member 5 is then lowered to a first temperature of 150 to <350°C, and the operation is continued.
