PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of appropriately preheating a filament. SOLUTION: A high-frequency wave is generated by alternately switching field-effect transistors Q1, Q2. Resonance voltage is generated by a resonance inductor L3 and a resonance capacitor C4 or the like. At the stare, the resistance of a positive temperature characteristics resistor element PTC1 is low because of low temperature, and a current flowing in the resonance capacitor C4 is little due to a resonance synthetic component. During the time, a part of the resonance current flows in electrode filament coils FLa, FLb of a fluorescent lamp FL as a preheating current, so that the electrode filament coils FLa, FLb can be appropriately preheated. Later, the resonance voltage rises due to the increase of the resistance of the positive temperature characteristics resistor element PTC1 and the change of the resonance synthetic component, and the fluorescent lamp FL starts discharging to start up and light up.
