PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish an imaging apparatus (color television camera or the like) capable of measuring a color signal containing a negative value for the purpose of expanding the existing color space represented in three primary colors of positive values and, in particular, to effectively utilize a conventional imaging apparatus optical system. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus of the present invention performs color separation into YRGB and photoelectric conversion to obtain signals of luminance Y (first luminance signal) and three primary colors R'G'B'. A differential between the first luminance signal and a second luminance signal calculated by the three primary colors is distributed into three primary colors in accordance with the relation of R', G' and B' to obtain three primary color signals close to an ideal state including negative components.
