PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide weighted value expression technology for enhancing retrieval and browsing performance of multimedia by effectively expressing weighted values to each multimedia item and a multimedia retrieval method utilizing the weighted value expression technology. SOLUTION: The multimedia data is constituted in such a manner that each of description information indicating the contents information of the multimedia includes a weighted value type 102 which means reference for defining a value of the weighted value, the weighted value 103 by the reference to be defined by the weighted value type, reliability 104 which means how reliable the weighted value imparted to an object by the weighted value type.
