PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant application device allowing cleaning of untransferred toner from the surface of an image carrier by a cleaning blade even when using the toner which is spherical, has a small diameter, and allows low temperature fixing, uniformly applying, on the surface of the image carrier, powder of the lubricant supplied on the image carrier by only the required amount for a long period of time without waste to reduce the frictional coefficient of the surface of the image carrier, thereby improving the service life of the image carrier. SOLUTION: In the lubricant application device 6 in which a lubricant roller 6a having a surface layer comprising the lubricant and a lubricant supply member (6b) scraping off the lubricant of the surface layer of the lubricant roller 6a to supply it on the surface of the image carrier 1 are rotatably provided, an abrasive member 6c abrading the surface of the lubricant roller 6a is provided so as to be brought into contact with/separated from the lubricant roller 6a.
