The device is used for dip-coating of especially motor vehicle body components. It has a driver element (16) extending horizontally to the direction of transport, and a carrier for a component (12) or a component holder frame (14). The driver element is moveable in a guide device, e.g. a slide bearing (18), in a translational movement, during dip coating in the dip tank. This causes relative displacement between transport in the coating appliance and the component. The translational movement is interrupted by locking elements (20,22) for the driver element, which have an associated control (24) for a release or locking process.
