PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal detection head for making fall to an article conveying face of its accumulated matter less apt to occur and suppressing falling matter from upward by making dust less apt to accumulate on the upper face of a casing, and to provide a metal detector. SOLUTION: The metal detection head has the casing 31 formed to penetrate a hole 32 for making an article pass through and detects magnetic field change due to a metal mixed in the article passing through the hole 32. The more the upper face side of the casing 31 is directed to the end of the casing 31 in a plane orthogonal to the penetration direction of the hole 32, the more it is inclined so as to be lowered. In other words, the outer shapes of side plates 33 and 34 are formed as oblong pentagonal shapes, and the upper parts are formed into upper projected triangles (roof type). Upper plates 35 covering the upper face side has a first inclination part 35a, falling from the upper apex of the side plates 33 and 34 to the upper end of a front plate 36 and a second inclination part 35b falling from the upper apex of the side plates 33 and 34 to the upper end of a rear plate 35.
