<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gravure printing machine rapidly correcting out-of-register in printing in a width direction of a plate cylinder to a steady state, and to provide a method of controlling the same. <P>SOLUTION: The size E<SB POS="POST">k</SB>of out-of-register between a registration mark put by the plate cylinder 11b, 11c, 11d of one rear-stage print unit 10b, 10c, 10d on a web W, and a registration mark put by the plate cylinder 11a, 11b, 11c of a front-stage print unit 10a on the direct upstream side of one rear-stage print unit 10b, 10c, 10d or another rear-stage print unit 10b, 10c is calculated. The driving speed V<SB POS="POST">s</SB>of a side-lay driving motor 17b, 17c, 17d per rotation of the plate cylinder 11b, 11c, 11d based on the calculated out-of-register size E<SB POS="POST">k</SB>.
