The invention relates to a tool (31) for positioning at least one tall bodywork component, comprising a movable frame (40) and a geometrical shape gauge (50), said movable frame (40) being designed to support at least one geometrical shape gauge (50) capable of keeping in position at least one specific tall sheet-metal bodywork component. According to the invention, the movable frame (40) and the gauge (50) each have a complementary standardized attachment device for removable attachment of the gauge to the frame, this device being designed to allow precise and repeatable positioning of the gauge relative to the frame and transmission to the frame of the loads applied to the gauge, the movable frame also having sufficient stiffness to withstand these loads without deformation. The invention also relates to the use of a positioning tool of this kind.
