The embodiments of the present invention provide a method and apparatus for uplink data transmission, said method comprising: determining that a terminal device is capable of performing hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmission, the initial transmission that corresponds to said HARQ transmission being grant-free transmission; determining the indication information associated with the transmission resource used by the terminal device for performing HARQ transmission; sending a first message, said first message comprising said indication information. Hence, when the terminal device is capable of performing HARQ transmission, the transmission resource for performing HARQ transmission may be determined according to the indication information; therefore data transmission reliability is improved and system resource overhead is reduced.
