The present invention relates to a hierarchical motion estimation method and an ultrasound imaging system using the same. The hierarchical motion estimation method includes decomposing a first input image and a second input image into at least two hierarchical, multi-resolution images (S110); selecting one of the multi-resolution images decomposed from the second input image, dividing the selected image into at least two motion estimation areas and extracting feature points from the motion estimation areas (S120); arranging blocks with specified sizes to surround the extracted feature points (S130); and estimating a local motion of the blocks (S140) by matching the second input image with the first input image and a global motion in the motion estimation areas (S150).
