PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an approach sensing apparatus capable of sensing an approach of a human body to a display apparatus without the need for separately providing an apparatus such as an ultrasonic generating apparatus. SOLUTION: An infrared ray receiving section 13 receives noises caused when a cold cathode fluorescent lamp of the liquid crystal display apparatus is subjected to dimmer control. The infrared ray receiving section 13 acts like a receiving section for receiving a remote control signal. A noise separation circuit 14, an integral circuit 15 for outputting an integral value of the noise, and a comparison circuit 16 for comparing the integral value with a reference voltage (prescribed level) are connected to the infrared ray receiving section 13. When receiving a signal denoting the integral value exceeding the reference voltage from the comparator circuit 16, a microcomputer generates a notice attention tone. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
