The present invention relates to a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus comprising: an RF transmission coil configured to transmitting an RF to an object on a table; an object scanning unit including a position detecting unit that detects a position of the object and a thickness that detects unit detecting a thickness of the object, and configured to identify a body shape of the object; and a control unit configured to control the RF to be transmitted so that an RF field is compensated based on the identified body shape of the object.
