METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DEPTH MAP BASED BLOCK PARTITIONING

A block partitioning method of a three-dimensional image comprising an object region and a background region includes a step of merging two motion compensation blocks by extracting an object and a background from motion compensation blocks on the basis of a dividing mask as to each motion compensation block comprising the object region and the background region. A partition boundary pixel of the merged block is obtained using multiple pixels near a partition boundary. In case of obtaining a partition boundary pixel of the merged block of the three-dimensional image, encoding efficiency can be increased by applying simple filtering.
