The exhaust system includes an exhaust cleaning device and an exhaust cooler mounted in the exhaust path between engine and cleaning device. The exhaust cooler is formed by a pipe line section (14) having at least one inner radiation plate (16) which radiates towards the pipe wall. The pipeline section (14) can be formed by two semi-shells connected gas-tight together with the radiation plate mounted inbetween.
