The electricity meter for domestic use has an input to a signal transducer (4) built into a housing. There is a pocket (7) in the housing to accommodate a removable measurement and calculation module (5) which has connections to a built-in measurement display (6). The measurement and calculation module may calculate charges for electricity consumed. It may be removed from the pocket and may be changed for a new module operating on a different tariff.
