PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a columnar article for plant growth or protection which achieves exertion of desired pharmacological activity of the chemical agent for plant growth or protection immediately upon application thereof, easily providing of articles having the working amount and working time changed according to the object and suppresses fungi formation upon application. SOLUTION: The columnar article for plant growth or protection is made of a polylactic acid and comprises a hollow columnar article selected from the group consisting of (a) a hollow columnar article, (b) a hollow columnar article having an apical end 4 cut at a slant from the longitudinal direction of the columnar article and (c) a hollow columnar article 1 having apical end 4 formed into a circular cone or pyramid, wherein a chemical agent for plant growth or protection is charged in a hollow 2 of the hollow columnar article 1 having multiple small holes 6 provided on its side wall surface.
