The recording material (I) has at least one colour receiving layer (A) for the absorption of a water-soluble dye solution, in which layer (A) contains an epoxide-containing metal oxide (II), a gelatine and a water-soluble cationic polymer (III). Also claimed is a process for the production of (I), by making a coating solution from the above components, coating this solution onto a substrate, and then gelling and drying the solution to form layer (A).
