PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing paper having high whiteness and smoothness despite using a pigment recovered from papermaking sludge as filler or a coating pigment and causing no abrasion of the papermaking wire or the like in producing the paper. SOLUTION: This method comprises making paper using a pigment as an internally filling and/or coating pigment, which is obtained through (1) a molding process where papermaking sludge is molded to prescribed form and size, (2) a carbonizing process where the molded product is carbonized, (3) a burning process where the carbonized product obtained by the carbonization is burnt and (4) a pulverizing process where the burnt ash is pulverized so as to have 0.1-10μm average particle diameter.
