PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing paper from curling or wrinkling and capable of improving fixability of an image to paper. SOLUTION: Time taken for a heat roller 68 to reach a specific fixing temperature (180°C) immediately after the start of the drive of a drive motor 78 is measured by a timer 40. Then, based on the result of the measurement and a table stored in a RAM 38, a CPU 36 determines the degree to which a press roller 72 and hence the image forming apparatus 10 have been cooled is determined. If the press roller 72 (image forming apparatus 10) has been cooled, the fixing temperature of the heat roller 68 is instantly increased and the high temperature is maintained only for a predetermined time.
