This ESD protection device has: an element body; a first discharge electrode and a second discharge electrode, which are disposed facing each other; and a discharge auxiliary electrode that electrically connects the first discharge electrode and the second discharge electrode to each other. The discharge auxiliary electrode has: a first surface direction electrode section extending in the surface direction of the first discharge electrode; and a facing direction electrode section extending in the direction in which the first discharge electrode and the second discharge electrode face each other. The contact surface of the first surface direction electrode section, said contact surface being in contact with the first discharge electrode, is larger than the contact surface of the facing direction electrode section, said contact surface being in contact with the first surface direction electrode section.
