Provided are a dye-containing negative type curable composition which is excellent in coating uniformity and is suppressed in the coming-off of an exposure part, a color filter using the composition which has a high transmittance, a wide development latitude and a high resolution and is remarkably excellent in light fastness, and its preparation method. The dye-containing negative type curable composition comprises an alkali-soluble binder; an organic solvent-soluble dye; a photopolymerization initiator; a photopolymerizable compound; and an organic solvent, wherein the organic solvent comprises at least two kinds of organic solvents. Preferably the organic solvent comprises an organic solvent containing a hydroxyl group and an organic solvent containing no hydroxyl group. Preferably the organic solvent containing no hydroxyl group is an organic solvent containing a ketone group; and the ketone group is preferably a cyclic ketone group. Also the dye-containing negative type curable composition comprises an alkali-soluble binder; an organic solvent-soluble dye; a photopolymerization initiator; a photopolymerizable compound; and an organic solvent, wherein the organic solvent comprises a solvent having a high boiling point of 160 deg.C or more.
