A surface structure characterization procedure presses a hardenable unsaturated double bond olefin or silicon disc probe onto undamaged and chemical, radiation or heat damaged car bodywork or test piece surfaces and uses an optical, atomic force, or scanning electron microscope to analyze the negative and positive images obtained by sputtering with precious metal.
