The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for generating a structurally multi-patterned watermark and apparatuses and methods for inserting and detecting a watermark using the same. The invention comprises the steps of: splitting user's concealed information that is inputted into plural pieces of data, performing the message-encoding for the split data pieces, modulating the image signal format of the pieces of data for which the message-encoding is performed, generating a synchronization signal to cope with the two-dimensional cropping or shifting of an image, generating plural sub-base patterns using plural message signals and synchronization signals both which are modulated into an image signal format, and generating a structurally multi-patterned watermark which is one unit watermark using the plural sub-base patterns. Therefore, the invention is able to increase the payload of concealed information of watermark. In addition, the invention is capable of coping robustly with not only the two-dimensional cropping or shifting of an image but also general geometric deformation of the image through the structural features of the watermark.
