PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently purify NOX in exhaust gas in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine having a particulate filter carrying an NOX storage reduction catalyst. SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device is provided with the particulate filter 70 arranged in an engine exhaust system by carrying the NOX storage reduction catalyst for absorbing NOX when a vicinal atmosphere is the lean air-fuel ratio and blowing off and reduction-purifying the NOX when the atmosphere is the theoretical air-fuel ratio or the rich air-fuel ratio and an NOX purifying catalyst device having the oxidizing function and arranged in the engine exhaust system on the upstream side of the particulate filter. |
