#CMT# #/CMT# In a furnace system (1) consisting of at least two furnaces (2), each with a furnace cavity (3) having at least one closable access opening (4), the furnaces are located in a common housing (5) with adjacent cavities separated by a gas-tight intermediate wall (6) having compensator folds. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The furnace systems are typically used for heat treatment of metallic articles (generally under an inert atmosphere to minimize surface oxidation), e.g. for annealing treatment. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The common housing arrangement reduces heat losses in comparison with furnaces in separate housings, due to the reduced external surface area. The amount of insulation required is markedly reduced, thus reducing the investment cost of the plant. The intermediate walls can be formed from austenitic steel (which has high temperature resistance and a long working life), since the compensator folds prevent variations in the overall dimensions due to thermal expansion and eliminate the risk of damage to the gas-tight seal between the intermediate wall and the cold housing wall. #CMT#DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS : #/CMT# The figure shows a schematic side view of the furnace system. 1 : Furnace system 2 : Furnaces 3 : Furnace chamber 4 : Closable access opening 5 : Common housing 6 : Gas-proof intermediate wall #CMT#METALLURGY : #/CMT# Preferred Structure: The compensator folds on the intermediate wall (6) are located crosswise with respect to each other to form intersecting opening, the points of intersection being sealed by flexible elements. Preferably the compensator folds are V-section grooves with variable angles of aperture. |
